I was born in upstate New York, where the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain were my playgrounds. I enjoyed all four seasons, but particularly the autumns, as the trees became so brilliant with color. I seemed to have a special feeling for leaves, which has inspired me to work with leaf impressions in clay.
I acquired a ceramics book from a friend while I was in England in 1979. I can remember browsing through the book many times, but knew I could not even begin while overseas. I always bought pottery for my home and loved it dearly. I traveled extensively until 1986 when my family settled in Washington. I began taking pottery classes in 1996. I was now making a dream come true and slowly became addicted to the art.
My passion for clay and gardening has blended for a unique outcome with nature for functional pieces of art. If it comes from Nature, it's got to be Good!
I began using leaves of all kinds and shapes from trees, vegetables, flowers, and plants in my gardens. There was no end to leaves. I spent endless hours in my studio rolling out leaves continuously. When fall came around I could waste no time and was on the hunt for the last leaves until spring. Leaves only last for a short period of time so I have to work quickly. This is how Natural Leaf Pottery Designs originated.
All my pottery is hand rolled and made of porcelain and stoneware clays. I use clays of many colors offering a greater color combination with different textures and glazes. Each leaf is one of a kind just as the lines in our own hands. Each piece takes on its own identity, as no two pieces are alike.
They are high fired, food safe and lead free.
You'll be proud to own one of my pieces. Enjoy.
